Thinking of designing something? Let me help you :)
A children’s picture book about a quest for belonging.
I created this children’s picture book many years ago. I dug it up recently and thought I’d share. Enjoy.
A sweet scent filled the air as the cookie pan emerged from the oven. Six little gingerbread men, now crisp and golden, were left on a table to cool.
“Quick!” one gingerbread said as he opened his eyes, “Lets go before we get eaten.” One by one the little gingerbread men climbed out of the pan.
“If we find a home to stay in, we’ll be safe.” one said. They all decided to split up to search for a home.
“What’s that over there?” Wondered one gingerbread man, “This place is nice and quiet and shady.” The gingerbread man peered inside the pot.
However the potted plant was already a home for someone else.
“I’m sorry Mr. Gingerbread, but this is my home. Try looking somewhere else.” said the worm kindly.
“This is harder than I thought.” The gingerbread man said to himself.
Another gingerbread man had discovered a small crack in the wall.
“Excuse me, do you need something?” Asked Mr. Mouse as he poked his head out of the crack, “if you’re looking for a home, you’re going to have to search elsewhere.”
Another Gingerbread stumbled into the dog’s bed.
“Do you mind? You just woke me from my nap.” Growled the Dog.
“Sorry Mr. Dog, I was looking for a home” replied the gingerbread.
“Well there’s no home for you here” snarled the Dog.
“Oh what lovely little cookies!” exclaimed Ms. Bird, “shouldn’t you be somewhere safe?”
“We’re looking for a home, do you think you can help us?” asked a gingerbread.
“I’m afraid not, honey,” she replied softly, “Besides, you cookies don’t belong here.”
All the gingerbread men met up with each other. They were all very disappointed to hear that not one of them was able to find a suitable home. “What’s the use?” They pouted, “we don’t even belong here. We’ll get eaten for sure.”
“We can’t give up so soon!” One said but the other gingerbreads had given up. “Fine I’ll keep looking myself”
Climbing onto a stack of books the gingerbread man spotted — “Our new home!” He exclaimed. Rushing back to the others he led them to what he had found - a gingerbread house.
“Its perfect!” They all rushed into the house, safe at last.
“See guys” the gingerbread said, “you should never give up because the answer could just be a few steps away. There’s always a way”
